"I AM THIRD". God is first. Family and Friends are second and I am third. -

There's no denying that the 2012 McGill-Toolen football season has been exciting and an impressive display of football skill.  The team has wins over tough opponents such as Daphne (38-21), Davidson (29-28), and Murphy (50-21). A remarkable win came against Blount, the defending Region 1 champion. Our Jackets, the defending Region 2 champion, beat Blount 48-14.

However, it takes more than just technique to make a fantastic team. #77, Chris Fisher, says, "The best part of the season so far has to be the bond that I have created with my teammates who are now my friends and brothers."

Every student knows the slogan "I am third." After plenty of questioning, we've all discovered that it means each teammate puts God and his team before himself. But do the boys really live by this saying? Harrison Louden, #75, believes it has truly made an impact on the team's performance. He thinks that the team has improved its dedication and that they are "much more experienced."

In the very last game of the regular season, the Jackets defeated the Sumter Central Jaguars of York, Alabama, by a score of 51-0 to cap a perfect season.  Many members of the team got to play in their first varsity game and took advantage of the situation by playing their very best.

Undefeated and still going strong, the Jackets then hosted Enterprise in the first round of the State Playoffs. This game promised great excitement, for Enterprise was the 4th seed in Region 2. With talented seniors and a successful head coach, Bart Sessions, the McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets added to their success by defeating them 56-33.

In the second round of the State Playoffs, however, the Auburn High School Tigers made a two point conversion in overtime to end the Jackets very successful season.  Tigers scored first in the game but the Jackts kept coming back, ending tied at 21 each as the clock ran out.

In overtime, the Jackets lost the coin toss but scored on the very first play from the 20 yard line.  It took Auburn four plays to make their touchdown. Their very talented quarterback just did get into the corner of the end zone making the final score, 29-28.

"It's great to be a Yellow Jacket!"
