The talent in the state of Kentucky for High School basketball is at the highest it’s been in a while, with many of the state’s top players also being some of the country’s top players. This will be a major reason why the state will have so much competition this year, and the action taking place will be exciting and fun to watch.
Our own Bryan Station will be looking for their first state title ever, and they have a strong cast of returning players and newcomers that will start this year out with the same chance to win the coveted sweet sixteen crown as everyone else in the state. Starting junior guard Daiquice Allen says, “There is a lot of talent in the state, a lot of players that can continue to play at a higher level.” The team has a lot of upside this year and with “the strength of the guards”, has the opportunity to shake things up in the state.
However, the defending sweet sixteen champs Trinity will have something to say about that as they try to defend their title. They are returning some of their players from last season’s successful run through the tournament, and start the season ranked 3rd in the state, hoping to defend their only state title.
The team to beat this year seems to be Louisville’s Ballard High School. They have been ranked 1st in the state by the Courier Journal, and look to improve on last season’s finish where they didn’t make the sweet sixteen. The team is being hyped up as being the top team in the state because of the players it returns, including 6’6” junior, Kelan Martin.
The teams in the state of Kentucky always seem to put on a show during the year. Some top talent from across state lines and represents the state well. However, the main goal for these teams is to beholding up that State Championship trophy in the middle of Rupp Arena’s historic floor, proving to themselves and everyone else that they are the best team in the state of Kentucky.
