Though it may seem like doing your own nails is difficult, there are many quick tricks that will make your nails look great without a trip to the salon. One simple but gorgeous type of nail art is the chevron nail. It is easy to do and can be varied in design every time. The supplies you need are; painter’s tape, Vaseline, two different colored nail polishes, and a top coat polish.
To begin, prep your nails. To have beautiful looking nails, make sure they are cut and filed to a nice, squared-off shape. You may want to wash your hands first or soak your nails in warm water so they are easier to cut. Next, rub the Vaseline all over the skin around your nail. This will make it easy to remove any excess nail polish they may drip onto your finger.
Now paint your nail with two to four coats of polish. The more coats applied, the longer your nails will last. Thin coats are best because it will dry quicker and won’t cause bubbles or lumps. Wait for each coat to dry before putting on the next. Once you finish and your nails have a vibrant color, apply one application of the top coat. Now the Vaseline can be wiped off along with any excess polish! You must wait for the top coat to dry completely before the next step.
Once your nails have dried, take the tape and rip it into pieces. You’ll want to place the tape over your nail so the corner is in the middle of your nail as shown in the picture. Press the tape down firmly so no polish will leak underneath it. Put Vaseline around your nail again. Now you can paint the part of your nail without any tape. Apply one to three coats until the underneath color is not visible. After it has dried, remove the tape. If you did not let the first coat dry, it may have stripped off the first layer of polish.
Apply a layer of top coat and let it dry. Wash off any leftover Vaseline and your nails are done! If you want to change up the design, you can put three strips instead of two or place the chevrons going in the opposite direction.
