For the second time in three years, MFS Girls Tennis won the South Jersey Parochial B title in South Jersey this fall. The girls had a winning season, ending with a record of 12-1. As a result of the team’s accomplishments, they went to their first state match on October 9, where they played Sacred Heart. They prevailed with 3.5 wins and 1.5 losses, after third singles Kiera Guerriere stopped play and split the match score with her opponent, since MFS had already secured the first round win.

MFS Girls Tennis competed against Bishop Eustace in the second round on October 13, this time without normal second singles Kayla Fox, who was sick on the day of the match. Just as earlier in the season, Katya-Denae Lilley stepped in as third singles, pushing Guerriere up to number two. MFS secured a win with a score of 3-2, once again advancing on to the next round of the championship. Their triumph earned them the title of South Jersey Parochial B Champs. Coach Ed Rahn was extremely proud of his team, “I wasn’t sure if we were mentally ready to deal with the loss of Kayla, but we were. Everyone pulled together and did it. I hope the girls enjoy this because they earned it,” says Rahn in the Philadelphia Inquirer. The girls celebrated and prepared themselves for the next round in the New Jersey State Championships.

MFS Girls Tennis went on to their fourth state match against Gill Saint Bernard’s, but lost 0-5. Still, MFS was proud to be the home of the South Jersey Parochial B Champs.
