For the first time in recent memory, Kaimuki High School’s football team has a shot at winning the state championship. It was not too long ago when the team lost 19 games in a row in back to back seasons — well all of that has changed.

The football team’s victory over Roosevelt on Nov. 9 gave Kaimuki their first Oahu Interscholastic Association championship in football. Last year, Kaimuki lost in the championship game against Waipahu. Kaimuki is now preparing for a first round match up against Big Island champion Kamehameha Hawaii as the number 4 seed in the state tournament. In addition, because of team’s recent success, it is now under review for a promotion into the OIA Red division, that is Division 1.

Finally. After much waiting and anticipation, Kaimuki has arrived.

The OIA championship is a rare celebratory event. Soak it in and preserve this moment because it isn’t something we should take for granted. Show your support to our hard working football players by going to the next game. They deserve an entire stadium full of fans yelling and going crazy on their behalf.

Kaimuki needs just three more wins to win the state title. And now, going to the game as a fan is easier than ever. The school is trying extra hard this year to get as much people as possible down to the game. The Kaimuki Spirit Bus became available last week for the OIA championship game and will be available again for the ride to Kaiser High School.

The cost is just $2 to reserve a seat on the bus along with a signed permission form found at the Student Activities Center (formerly Aloha Room).

So this is our chance. It’s easy, it’s exciting, it’s school spirit. If there was ever a time to scream, shout and go nuts, this is it.
