The warm weather has arrived, and the Circleville baseball team is starting to heat up their play. After finishing 20-6 last year and 11-3 in the league, the Tigers took home second place in the MSL last season.

“It was really disappointing last year that we didn’t win the league and this is number one goal this season,” head coach Brian Bigam said. “We then want to aim for the sectional, district, regional, and state championships and have the same success as the softball team did last season.”

The Tigers are returning seven lettermen from their successful team who competed last season. Bigam commented on each of his returning letterman.

“Senior Adam Turner will be expected to play everywhere, and senior Derrick Bannerjee is one of our top three pitchers,” Bigam said.

“Drew McGlone had a great season as a sophomore and was second- team all MSL and will be batting third or fourth in the lineup. Zach Hammond will be playing first base and is expected to be one of our top bats in the lineup.

“Cory Cooper was all league last year and will be a big factor in the outfield. Joel Williams will be our main catcher and is also one of our top three pitchers, and Drew Clanin also received second team all MSL as a sophomore.”

The Tigers have five seniors this year consisting of Adam Turner, Derrick Bannerjee, Cory Cooper, John Ramey, and Richie Davis.

“I’m excited to have seven returning starters from last year, and I’m looking to have a lot of success,” Bigam said. “I’m pretty close with the senior class and excited for them to go out on top and have a successful year.”

The players have high expectations each and every year for their team and want to bring home an MSL championship. They fell short last year by losing to Amanda Clearcreek twice, which cost them the league.

This year, the MSL will be the Tiger’s main focus as they prepare themselves for a title.

“The league will be pretty balanced, and we have to be ready for everybody each and every game,” Bigam said. “Teays Valley are the defending champions, and Canal will be very good along with Bloom Carroll and Fairfield Union who had a really good JV team to bring up to varsity.”

The Tigers completed a scrimmage on March 10 at the VA Memorial Stadium against the Jackson Ironmen.

The Tigers started their season on March 27 and lost a tough one to Zane Trace by a score of 12-9. Starting pitching was Drew McGlone, who was followed by Daichi Hoshino and Derrick Bannerjee.

Leading the way hitting for the Tigers was sophomore Joel Williams who went 3 for 4, and junior Drew McGlone who went 2 for 2. Also with a hit for the Tigers were Richie Davis, Zach Hammond, Adam Turner, and Daichi Hoshino.

The Tigers are now preparing for league play, which starts the week of April 2 with county rival, the Logan Elm Braves.
