This year certain students will get in groups and make movies on topics they choose, some topics being some of the most controversial in the country.

For the 2007-2008 school year, First Flight Middle students got to decide whether or not they wanted to make a movie on a topic they choose. The project will take almost the whole school year to make and at the end, some groups will be placed in categories based on how well it turned out.

“Well over 100 students are participating,” said First Flight Middle principal Adrienne Palma. Most of the participants are from the seventh grade, 15 groups of two to six students. Eight groups are from eighth grade, and six are from the sixth grade.

Landra Cartwright was the staff member who introduced the school to this project. While attending a conference in Georgia, she saw some of the films made by students in another school. They were very good, so she thought our school should do this project as well.

When asked if she thought this was a good project for our school to participate in, Dr. Palma replied, “Yes, because students are working closely, researching real life issues, using technology, and using higher thinking skills.”

“I hope students enjoy this project because they chose to do it. And also gain knowledge about their topic, and inspire others to make these films,” added Dr. Palma.
