Wednesday, April 9, American Airlines cancelled more than 1,000 flights. “That is more than one third of its scheduled flights,” said www.cnn.com. But why would an airline cancel all of these flights that tickets were already sold for?

As of Tuesday, April 8, 460 flights of the nation’s largest airline were cancelled. Inspectors started finding problems with wiring work two weeks before they started canceling flights on Wednesday April 9 but did not cancel anything because it did not jeopardize anyone’s safety. Tim Wagner, a spokesman from American Airlines told CNN, “cancellations could go beyond Wednesday, but as of Wednesday April 9, only 30 of its planes were back in service.”

Travelers on business trips and spring break trips have been thrown completely off guard. “People with non-stop flights have made their first flight without problems but are then being cancelled for their second flight,” CNN said. At New York’s LaGuardia Airport, they are providing the hundreds of passengers that stood in a check-in line free doughnuts, coffee and orange juice. “American Airlines has about 2,300 daily flights so the cancellations are not helping with the airlines revenue,” said CNN. That means if flights do not start soon, the airline will not make as much money as they would if all of the planes were in full operation. “More than 100,000 passengers could have been affected if they started canceling flights two weeks before they started on Wednesday,” Everything is back in order and hopefully something like this will never happen again.
