Girls' tennis is a sport unlike any other. You have no teammates with you when you play, except for doubles. The scoring is different too. Love is equal to zero, fifteen to one, two to thirty, and three to forty. I'm not going to go any farther though; you might get too confused. I'm here to give you an inside look at the Biglerville girls' tennis team, and their season this year.

The girls record so far this year is pretty good. Chris Heller, who took over after Mr. Yeck retired two years ago, coaches the team. I sat down and talked to Chris and asked her who her most improved player is. Her answer was surprising.

"Patricia, strangely enough, even though she played number one since ninth grade. This year she has walked onto the court with more poise and maturity than ever."

I then asked Patricia Motter, our number one tennis player, what her goal for the season is. She answered that her goal is to go to Nationals in doubles with her partner Ale Heller and win. It is a high goal, but if she puts her mind to it, she can accomplish it. Ale Heller has the same goal in mind. She wants to go far in doubles, and she also wants to try to not kill Patricia for the rest of the season. That is an interesting goal.

The rest of the varsity team members have a little less crazy goals. There are five spots that are varsity, and for Biglerville, from one to five are Patricia Motter, then Ale Heller, Amy Baugher, Mikayla Trimmer, and Faith Bachman. When I interviewed Faith Bachman, our number five player about what she liked most about tennis, I loved her answer.

She told me, "I like that it appears to be a simple sport, but there is actually a lot of strategy and thought that goes into every hit."

That pretty much sums up what tennis is. You don't have to be in amazing shape or even really quick; you just have to know the game and be able to place the ball at the right spot on the court with some speed. So that is a little bit of an inside look at the girl's tennis team and the actual sport. If you don't get anything out of this article, just remember this: in tennis, love means you haven't scored yet.
