Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Lindenhurst Middle School field was a night full of high school students dressed in colorful, military-style uniforms with instruments big and small. Joined by swarms of family, friends, and alumni showing their support, the Lindenhurst High School Marching Band hosted a successful New York State Field Band Conference competition attended by 11 other bands from across Long Island and even from upstate. “A lot of hard work was put into the show to make it a wonderful success,” said band director, Mr. Pike. The Band Parents Association was behind much of this hard work, helping to organize and run the event.

The weather was beautiful despite predictions, allowing for great performances by all of the bands. Lindenhurst performed once as an exhibition band in competition and again after the competition for the parents who were hard at work selling food and souvenirs during the first performance. “I’m so proud of the band for putting on a great performance – especially for our home crowd!” says woodwind captain and senior, Nicole Savin. Many band members feel the same way; freshman Keri Phillips says, “The band performed to the best of their ability for the audience.”

Lindenhurst Marching Band has a full competition schedule this season; look for updates in future issues!
