The Warrior varsity girls tennis team will hit the courts today for the first day of the State AA Tournament in Rapid City.

The tournament is scheduled to run through Saturday, but due to the possibility of inclement weather, more matches than originally scheduled will be played today and the tournament could end early.

The team is led by senior Kilee Kading, who is the No. 5 seed at flight number one, and junior Sam Stanley, who is the seven seed in the second flight.

Other team members include sophomore Mikki Gebaur and seniors Andi Leonard, Katie Whelden and Kristen Holm.

In doubles action the Warrior two and three combo holds the fourth seed.

Heading into the tournament, the team is very excited. Coach Cindy Heuther said she thinks the team is ready to play hard.

“The girls have been practicing hard, and I think they are focused and ready to work hard,” Heuther said.

Coming off a fourth place finish at the Greater Dakota Conference Tournament earlier this season, the team hopes for another solid showing at the event.
