With 12 varsity girls leading Rocklin High’s volleyball team to a league championship, this 2008 season has been record setting. Putting their almost-perfect league season (11-1) behind them, they are looking ahead to take on the tough teams in the play-offs.
“It is rare that a freshman makes the varsity team so we were shocked when Caiyln Prewitt [a freshman] made the team,” said Leslie Braly, a senior varsity player. “She definitely deserves to be on varsity though.”
Among the 12 girls that make up the varsity team the five senior veterans on the varsity team include Janelle Curry, team captain, Lori Yokomizo, Leslie Braly, Breana Velasquez, and Hanna Anderson.
On November 11 they will battle to keep their championship dreams alive. “We’re not sure who we’re playing in our first game in the play-offs but it’s a good chance we will play Oakridge.”
Prior to the regular season starting, Rocklin’s Varsity girls lost in a scrimmage to Oakridge. Later on in the regular season they managed to beat them.
“I think we have a good and strong team to beat Oakridge. It’s a little scary seeing the sophomores that were brought up to varsity when they have never been to play-offs before.”
Other teams the girls might have to face-off are possibly Del Oro, Granite Bay, or Nevada Union. If the varsity team is victorious in the play-offs they move to section finals then Nor Cal Finals.
