The Cultural Diversity Club is up and running this year and busy as ever. Advised by Mrs. Lamason, in room A118, "Cult", as the students and members have dubbed it, is one of the more popular clubs to join.
Cultural Diversity has just finished its "Holiday Child" project and they are very excited about the support they received. They put together 58 shoe boxes filled with school supplies, hygiene items, toys and hard candy. The members of the club stayed after school one day a few weeks ago and wrapped and stuffed these shoe boxes until their hands were sore. All of these boxes were given to a local church in Middletown where they will be shipped out to children in third-world countries around the world. The "Holiday Child" project is probably the biggest venture that the Cultural Diversity Club puts together, but not the only one.
This year the club is starting something new. Each member, if willing, has signed up for a pen pal in a different country. It is a wonderful chance to learn about different cultures and life styles first hand. They are very excited about it and can’t wait to find out more.
They are always looking for ways to raise money. All proceeds go to the Cultural Diversity Club, which is used to help their sponsor child in Nepal. The Cultural Diversity Club has been sending $25 each month to this child for quite a few years now. Anjali Damai, the sponsor child, is almost 4 years old now and is always happy to receive her "Cult" birthday present on March 10th every year.
The Cultural Diversity Club now counts 43 of its members. The officials of "cult" are as follows: Joyce Kang as President, Rebecca Stewart as Vice President, Kristen Thornton-Destafeno and Serena Venditto as Co-Secretaries, and finally Jennifer Kang as Treasurer. They are all very excited about Cultural Diversity and have many plans for the new school year. The Cultural Diversity Club is thriving and is always looking for new members who want to be involved with the schools cultural background. Join the "Cult" of Diversity!
