At-a-glance

The winter season is finally here, which means the Crown Center Ice Terrace is now open. The Ice Terrace can be found in the Crown Center Pavilion across from the Crown Center shops.

This is the thirty-third season of great skating fun for Kansas City’s only public outdoor ice skating rink. Although it is cold outside and we should be staying inside all warm and cozy, the ice skating rink is a fun way to enjoy the holiday season with friends and family.

In sunshine or by starlight, the rink is open during convenient hours and one can rent skates at an affordable price. Through December and January on Sunday –Thursday, the rink is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday and Saturday the rink is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Through February and March the rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For adults and children over 5, the admission is $6, where for adults over the age of sixty and children ages 5 and under, the admission is entirely free. If a skater cannot bring their own ice skates, they can rent skates for the price of $2. Many visitors who frequently skate at the Ice Terrace may find the sixty-five dollar season skate pass a bargain, however, skate rental is not included in this price.

While skating on the ice terrace in Kansas City’s very own hub of Crown Center, one can feel the chills of the holiday season. One should take advantage of this season and enjoy it while it lasts because it only comes once a year. Gliding across the ice is eventful. It may seem hard at first, but one will soon get the hang of it.

Don’t skate too fast because the ice is slippery. While looking around at the different variety of skaters, one can see that the ice terrace is for all ages to have a good time and enjoy the season. The ice terrace is cheerful with vivacious music, where one can feel the spirit of this joyful season. Pack a lunch for a day’s outting at the ice terrace. Park benches around the venue provide a pretty setting for family picnics.

The winter is a time when many choose to hibernate indoors to escape the wintery chill outside. But once you experience the excitement of the outdoor ice skating at Crown Center, you will be counting down the days until the winter season. Happy skating!
