Does a basketball player skip practice? Does a swimmer bail out on time trials? Then why should a student neglect homework?
Ergophobia means a fear of work, and unless you have this phobia there is no excuse to never do you homework. I understand that teachers sometimes give a lot of homework on a given day and that it may be hard to complete all of it in one night, but there is no reason not to attempt any of it. Many of my friends, who don’t do their homework, can graze through their classes with a B average. Imagine if they did their homework or studied for tests, what grade they would get then. They even tell me that if they had done their homework or had studied they could have gotten a better grade.
I’m pretty sure Professional Basketball players do not go around skipping practice because they do not feel like going, is homework so much different than this? Homework is practice for school. Although sometimes it seems teachers assign things just as busy work, but homework has been around for a long time, and if teachers continue to give it to you, it is obviously supposed to help you. I’m not saying it’s not okay to sometimes skip some homework or skip an assignment, but to never do it seems ridiculous. It’s almost like you are trying to set yourself up to fail. I no that for math, homework helps me understand the notes we took in class, and drills the equations and problems into my head so I can do better on tests.
Now I do understand that there are some very smart people, who do not need to do homework to pass, but I am not one of those people nor do I believe that a huge percent of people are like that. Homework and studying are essential in my life and for my grades and when I see people not doing their homework and getting bad grades it’s upsetting because with a little bit of work and studying, I know that they could be doing better. They could be paving a better path for their future.
There are things that you can do to help your study skills and homework progress, something as simple as attending each class will help you get better grades. As for homework, if you are really loaded down, work smarter, not harder. If you have too much homework, work on your more important homework longer, like math or World and then go on to your other subjects. Do the work that will benefit you the most first and then worry about your other homework.
Homework helps you practice what you learn in class. It drills the lessons into your head and although sometimes it seems long and tedious, it will help in the long run. Teachers and administrators have been doing their job for years and, believe it or not, they know what they are doing and they are trying to help you.
