For the 2009-2010 school year, Seniors Sarah Bradford and Giovanni Granados were congradulated as they were victorious in their runnings of becoming the first student body president and vice president for Daniel Pearl Manget High School (DPMHS), respectively.

Student Body elections are held within every high school where seniors are elected as president and vice president to represent the entire student body.  This year was no different for DPMHS, the newest addition to the Los Angeles Unified School District, in participating in this traditional pastime.

Students excitedly grabbed their pencils and pens and selected their preferred candidates.Seniors Eric Ballew, Sarah Bradford and Rachel Ferreira were the chosen nominees in a three-way race for the presidential position, while seniors Giovanni Granados and Alyssa Washington faced off one-on-one for vice president.

Colorful posters and signs of each candidate promoting themselves to the students decorated the campus until the day of voting came closer and closer.

During fourth period on Oct. 5, 2009, the announcement of the winners was made. Soon after their names were listed, Bradford and Granados were congradulated throughout the campus as the elected 2009-2010 President and Vice President for the student body.

Feeling rejoiced, Bradford and Granados celebrated their success and continued forward into their planning for the remainder of the school year and for the students of Daniel Pearl.

“I have this love for the school and that’s why I wanted to run for president,” Bradford said.

Bradford hopes to accomplish big plans for DPMHS regarding receiving a better reputation by providing more community services, academic and recreational events.

“I want to show [skeptics of the school] that our school can be fun but still be a great place to learn from,” Bradford said.

By the end of the year, Bradford hopes that her fellow classmates will enjoy the school as much as she has, and they are able to maintain a more positive and honored attitude about DPMHS.

Granados, like Bradford, has been in the Magnet his entire high school career and hopes to spread the friendly vibe the Magnet has provided him.  Granados’ plans are to improve the atmosphere and general attitude around the school.

“I hope that by the end of the year everyone will feel much more comfortable at the school,” Granados said.

“We want everyone to feel comfortable here and enjoy it as much as we have,” Bradford said.

As Bradford and Granados  begin the school year with fresh new ideas to incorporate, DPMHS students look forward to the future with these two students as their president and vice president of the year.
