At-a-glance

Homophobia kills people. The fear to live and the fear to be who you really are is pure hell.

People at Arrowhead choose to use rude and judgmental slurs “That’s so gay” and “hey, fag” are directed at people who are homosexual. Many famous people have spoken up for those who are afraid to like Rosie O’ Donnell, Wanda Sykes, Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah.

People don’t choose to be gay, bisexual, transgender or a lesbian. It just happens. Some people may think they’re straight at first and have boyfriends or girlfriends, but later in life they end up finding out they are gay or bisexual.

People aren’t taught what homosexuals are or even what is like to be gay or bi. So many people find it so hard to tell their parents about their sexual preference that they drive themselves to the point where they don’t want to live anymore. Homosexuality is a topic that should be taught to kids. Do we really have control over what others are or who they decide to be later in life?

For the longest time, doctors tried to treat homosexuality as a disease, something that is possibly curable. But it’s not. We now know it has something to do with the genes.

Homosexual slurs have been used for the longest even sport s members use them but according to ballhype.com “Chiefs running back Larry Johnson has been suspended indefinitely while the team and the NFL continue to investigate alleged comments made by Johnson in the 24 hours following the Chiefs' 37-7 loss at home to the Chargers.

I have experienced gay slurs said to me. I have heard everything from, “Hey gay boy” to “What’s up good looking?”, coming from straight guys. Why do people make comments like that when they really aren’t gay? I also have been teased since I was in kindergarten, even when I did not know what being gay was. When I got older, I realized I was different from other people and started looking at pictures of guys and that’s when I figured out that I was bisexual.

Why do we live in such a conservative and non open community? Why do we not teach our kids what homosexuals are and make it okay to be what you are and not try to scare our kids away or kill them inside? We have to educate our kids and not keep them in the dark about everything. So keep the gay slurs at home and live your life with an open mind.

I think this is very interesting. Although I am straight, i have gay and bi friends. They're really the same and i hate to see them be treated differently, because they're really not.

I agree with you on one hand we shouldn't use those words but I dissagree with you it is a lifestlye they choose and I think people shouldn't be harshly punished for harsh words because it was your choice to be gay. but you yes we should tolerate differances but keep an obeservational distance.

if homosexuality was really "genetic" & was "another way of life," then it would just come naturally to us and NOT have to be "taught." going off of what you wrote, that's like saying we have to be taught to breathe or blink as kids. homosexuality is a choice - nothing more, nothing less.

"We now know it has something to do with the genes. " Indeed, because Adam and "Steve" were our parents. The fact of the matter stands, that such slurs are vain and have no purpose in society. However, it is not right to get offended by such words as "gay" if you are gay, that is just self-denial and ignorance.

Hello writer, I enjoyed your article and appreciate your openness, however, there are no scientific links between genetics and homosexuality. All studies seem to indicate that enviromnental factors are the primary cause of this particular lifestyle. Keep writing!

I'm a senior at Alta High school in Sandy, Utah. The most closed minded state of them all. I see the fear of gay people every single day. We've had 2 students kill themselves because of the pressure they felt to come out and due to teasing from the other students. We're not even meant to write about it on our newspaper. I loved your article. Wish something would be done already.

In response to this article laced with opinions that are referred to as facts i have a problem with your comments that homosexuality is not a choice but is a characteristic that one is born with you have no backing behind these comments and within your poorly written article there are several blatant journalism mistakes

I agree to an extent we shouldn't use that bad launge in public and we as a sociity should TOLERATE people of that choice of lifestyle. On the other hand I dissagree with you it's a lifestyle and it's something that I think can be avoided at a young age with the right kind of therapy.
