This year, the girls’ varsity basketball team welcomes a new coach—Cameron Vernon.  Vernon works at North Chatham School as a seventh grade social studies teacher.   
     “I have always wanted to coach,” Vernon said.
     When he is not teaching a classroom full of eager students or coaching his girls basketball team, Vernon enjoys exercising, spending time with his German Shepard puppy, Roy, and even umping some baseball games on the side.
     Though he does not currently play any sports, Vernon has participated in baseball, basketball, soccer and even kicked for his high school football team.
     Though Sharon, Pennsylvania (about 60 miles north of Pittsburgh), is Vernon’s hometown, he went to college for his undergraduate degree at Bethany College in West Virginia and attended UNC-Chapel Hill for his master’s degree.  
     Now that Vernon resides in North Carolina, he enjoys attending UNC football and basketball games.
      In the next five years, Vernon hopes to continue his teaching and coaching positions as well as his residence here in Chatham County.  In 20 years, Vernon hopes to retire from teaching to find a more relaxing job and buy a beach house.
