On Tuesday, May 11, Drama/English teacher Gennell Arnold and Resource teacher John Hiedrick held this year’s Drama/Forensics/Chess/Debate awards. In previous years, the drama club awards were part of the Fine Arts Awards which were held a week earlier and consist of band, choir, and art awards. Arnold stated that she decided to move the drama club awards to the other night because “most of the drama club was also in forensics. Plus, the Fine Arts Awards night was already so lengthy.” The awards given out to the members of drama club were tittles related to inside jokes pertaining to the plays the kids put on. This year, six kids lettered in Forensics. Seniors John Anson, Seth Diehm, Kyle Dilley, Sam Bruch, Jason Strong and Junior Mandi Christensen all made it to Forensics state. The chess club’s sponsor Hiedrick has decided to resign from the position next year and so decided to divvy up the clubs money to its Seniors Charles Breedlove, Thomas Edmondson, Michael Fraser and John Mayhew. They each received $100 checks from Hiedrick. Hiedrick also gave some awards to his debate team which had two members make it to state, earning letters in the activity. Overall, Arnold and Hiedrick feel that this has been a good year for their activities, and look forward to next year. A large number of members from all four activities are graduating this year, leaving a large gap for the underclassmen to fill, and to strive for the same success that was achieved this year.
