Andrew Chomiczewski went up to bat at the first home game against the Topsail Pirates, got a beautiful hit, just to find out that it didn't count. The bat that was used was a composite bat, which is illegal. The umpires heard the sound that came off of the bat when the ball hit it, which gave away what kind it was. Umpires check bats before the game starts just to make sure that they're all useable, or to tell which ones are not. The umpires told Coach Batts that it was legal, and useable.

“I felt bad because we could have had the lead in the game, if it had counted,” said Andrew. Batts was also very upset because, of the check before the game began.

“I was extremely frustrated, with the call,” said coach Batts. The team was upset because it took up a bit of time that could have been used on the field, which caused the game to end later. Topsail High School also encountered the same problem in the very next inning of the game, which left them in the same situation because, like the Titans, their bats were also checked prior to the beginning of the game. Was the problem that the umpires didn't check the bats well enough to know the difference? Or did they just over look the bats? Either way, it was it took up time in both innings, which could have been avoided from the start.

“I was really mad, because a hit is a hit no matter the bat used,” said Dakota McFadden.
