Are you holding out for a hero? Do you want to kick off your Sunday shoes? If so, consider coming to the production of South Warren’s first ever musical, Footloose.
Footloose is the story of Ren McCormack, a senior who moves to Bomont after his father abandoned him and his mother. He soon finds out that dancing is against the law and sets out to change this. Along this journey he meets a girl named Ariel and many other characters who join him to abolish the law against public dancing in Bomont.
If you’ve seen the movie, it isn’t anything like the movie. “The storyline is roughly the same, but I think the musical is better than the movie,” said Mrs. Schmitt, one of the directors. “It’s that great eighties music that makes the musical so good.”
Clay Nelson, the junior who plays Reverend Shaw in the musical, agrees. Like Mrs. Schmitt, he believes that “The songs just make it.” He feels that the song “Somebody’s Eyes” is particularly moving and will be “a really big thing to watch.”
For those of you who have seen the film version of Footloose, Clay feels that the movie doesn’t go as in depth as the musical. He feels that the musical version of Footloose explores the story further and adds more emotion to the romance that develops between Ren and Ariel.
The shows are this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. as well as Sunday at 2:30 p.m. All shows will be in the South Warren auditorium. Tickets are $10 each and will be available at the door. Now all you have to do is… cut Footloose!
