The Honor of Joining the High Five Club
By Eddie
Shannon is one of the Arbor School students to have the honor of being selected to the High Five Club. This school year Shannon wrote three entertaining, interesting, and fun to read essays with a top five score.
Few students join the High Five Club each year. Shannon achieved this with her essays: “The Best Birthday,” “Christmas,” and “My Special Family.” “The Best Birthday” is based on a special memory about going to Six Flags Great Adventure Park to celebrate her birthday. In “Christmas,” Shannon describes her family tradition of having a feast at her grandparents' house on Christmas Day. Moreover, she talks about her family pizza making night in “My Special Family.” Shannon stated that when she got into the club the first time, she was very excited.
At the time of my interview with her, Shannon was getting ready to write a letter to J. K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter Series. When I asked Shannon if she had any advice for kids who want to improve their writing skills, she replied, "Use vivid vocabulary. Think what would make it sound better. Spice it up. Change the sentence structure. It is important to read many books. The more you read, the more vocabulary you learn. Then those words stay with you, and when you have to write, they burst out of you." Shannon wants to be a famous, talented, published author like J. K. Rowling.
