Student Council is sponsoring the Central Iowa Leadership Conference this Tuesday, playing host to 17 schools in the Central Iowa Metropolitan League (CIML).
“We want to develop awareness of leadership skills and opportunities,” sponsor Shelly Stille said. “This is the first Student Council-sponsored CIML leadership conference.”
Bettendorf and Sioux City East have hosted eastern and western conferences for the past 10 years. “I am very excited to start a tradition here,” Stille said.
This conference is meant to provide an opportunity to exchange ideas with other student leadership groups. Topics such as fundraising, elections and dance ideas will be addressed.
The conference takes the place of “exchanges” that the council normally participates in.
“This creates a huge opportunity for our council,” senior Kelsey Duff said. She adds that being able to listen to multiple councils and how they do things will be beneficial to the planning of activities for next year.
Local author Steve Siemens will be the keynote speaker at the conference.
His remarks will outline how to be a successful leader in high school for the group of participants.
