On April 10, 2011, Mr. Potter and three seniors from the East High School wrestling team competed in the Tough Mudder at Doe Mountain in McCungie, Pennsylvania. Seniors Blake Smith, Ryan Price and Matt Murphy competed with their coach in a course that was over 12 miles and included 24 obstacles. Running up and down the ski mountain “at least 8 times,” the team had their endurance and team work tested.

“There is no placing system on first or last,” explained Mr. Potter. “It is based off of personal goals and stresses team work.” Each member did really well. Murphy and Smith ran extremely well and Price performed well despite needing surgery after the Tough Mudder. “Everyone did extremely well and they all waited for me before they started each obstacle,” said Mr. Potter jokingly about the success of the team.

According to Mr. Potter, the Tough Mudder competition is an obstacle course designed by a British Special Forces officer and has no physical requirements, although it is recommended that participants be in physical shape. Good endurance, team work, and mental strength are vital to completing the course.
