While most students are busy sleeping in and enjoying the beautiful weather on their first day of spring break the students involved in student council are busy decorating the entire school. The reason they had to miss out on the nice spring day was because of the MASC State Convention that is being hosted at the school. The theme is based around a circus.
Wednesday was only day one of a four day convention.
- Wednesday-Begin set up
- Thursday-Finish set up, opening ceremonies
- Friday-Class sessions and speakers
- Saturday-Closing sessions, tear down
The call time for today was 9 a.m. and that is when junior Midori Saito arrived to help out.
“I've cut paper, cut tape, and painted a lot," Saito said.
All over the school students were covering the walls with paper painted with animals and tight rope walkers. Every room in the school had to be decorated for this convention. Mostly every class room will be filled with students sitting in on classes on how to make their school’s student councils better.
“I am beyond proud of my students,” student council adviser Angie Zarrillo said. "Everything is so great."
This whole convention has been being planned the whole year. Student council members were split into committees dealing with luggage, student hospitality and decorations. For decorations committee chair junior Talaematafi Fuiava, today was the day she was waiting for all year long.
"Everything is coming together," Fuiava said.
After all their hard work students will be rewarded by the reactions of the visiting students and advisors.
"So far everyone's reactions have been positive and that makes me feel great," Fuiava said.
Though student council has everything set up, they could still use some volunteers on Friday evening to help serve dinner to the visitors.
