The yearbook has recently hit a milestone. Just like some of the classes at school, they too have now gone online. This all happened on Monday, September 12. The representative from Walsworth, Mike James, came by for a meeting with Mrs. Schommer and the three editors, Lacey Waters, Georgia Schleef, and Hope Jensen.
Not one of them had planned for this big change when the meeting started; they all thought the meeting was for finalization of fonts and to discuss the book cover. Within ten minutes, the idea of the yearbook going online was brought up. James mentioned he had just switched over another school to the online version just that week.
When editor Hope Jensen heard this, her face lit up with excitement like a little child opening the Christmas present that he or she wanted. Right away, there were questions for James such as “Is the program that different than In-Design?” “Is it hard to switch over?” “Is now the time to make this jump?” and “Is it too late to switch over?”
Schommer and the three editors discussed it a little bit and then Schommer gave the girls 12 minutes to decide what to do. During these 12 minutes James showed them different aspects of the online program and said that many schools were switching over. He also pointed out that the program does almost everything that In-Design does. When the 12 minutes were up, it was time for the girls to vote.
It was obvious what Jensen’s vote would be because she did not even have to say a word about what she was feeling, Waters thought they should go for it because it was time and it would make a ton of things easier, and then it all came down to Schleef. All the girls had to want to switch to make it happen. Schleef had a couple of concerns but also agreed it would be best to switch the yearbook online.
So, since the decision was unanimous, the yearbook was to be switched to online. James told them that they would be online within the week. However, later that day, Schommer got the notice from James that the Lakeside Lutheran Yearbook was officially online. Editor Waters adds, “We are all really excited about going online this year.We thought it was the best choice to help create a better yearbook for this year and the years to come.”
