Ever wonder where your friends and the people who
sat next to you during lunch the other day mysteriously disappeared to? The
answer is simple; they are probably attending a club meeting, or four.
Mount Olive High School is not only a learning
institution. It is a place where all students are encouraged to take an
interest and participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities. The
students that are involved in clubs show tremendous amounts of dedication and
devotion to their clubs. Their efforts are displayed throughout the year in the
form of fundraisers, after school events, and much more. So the next time your friend
misses lunch for a club meeting, be understanding and then try to find a club
just for you. In the hallways of Mount Olive, there is a club out there for
every student. The only question now, is which club to join? Take a look at a
few of the clubs below to see what Mount Olive has to offer.
Student Council is a club that tries to encompass
all that Mount Olive has to offer. It is a club that values not only school
pride and spirit, but also community service. Student Council is open to every
student and all are welcome to join. This is the club hosts the annual winter
formal, Snowland, spirit weeks, Book Buddies, Clash of the Classes, and the
list goes on and on. If you’d like to learn more, please see any of the club
officers or Mrs. Nelson, the club advisor.
Yearbook Club is what makes that awesome book full
of high school memories possible. These hard-working students layout the
yearbook, from the design, all the way to what goes in it. This year’s theme is
Mount Olive Pride, and the Yearbook Club is currently hosting a cover contest.
On a final note, this club is always interested in your pictures throughout the
year. For more information, please see Jennie Abat or Ms. Bartlett, the
advisor.
IDI Biology has a new advisor this year, and with
the new advisor, there are some new changes that will take place. This club is
looking forward to a much larger profile and instituting long term projects
that will make a difference in our school and the community. IDI Biology
already has committees set up for habitat, fundraising, and information. This
club does not want to limit itself this year and is also looking to do good in
school, locally, and possibly even beyond. It is also trying to establish
possible scholarships for students. Keep a look out for this club and if
interested, talk to Mr. Schultze.
GSA, Gay Straight Alliance works hard to provide a
safe haven for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation. Anyone can
join the club and meetings are usually held twice a month. GSA plans to hold
many fundraising events for t-shirts and awareness events to be held in school,
and throughout the community. A part of their plan this year is to work both in
and out of school. Please see Nikki Peer, Simran Bal or Ms. Kulawiak, the
advisor.
FEA, Future Educators of America promotes and
encourages students who would like to pursue a future career in education and
supports these individuals by providing opportunities for them to grow. A big
project that they have initiated this year is Blessings in a Backpack. Every
Friday, FEA plans to give food to underprivileged students at a local
elementary school using backpacks as a medium. If you are interested in
learning more about FEA and Blessings in a Backpack, please see Lori Tatum or
Mrs. Pasqualone, the advisor.
Key Club is a club that focuses mainly on
community service. Key Club works with the township Kiwanis to promote
leadership and community outreach by participating in events such as Safe
Trick-or Treat, a Santa Breakfast, a Santa House, an Easter Egg Hunt, and many
more. For more information, please see Michelle Kozak or Mrs. Craig.
