Teen stress. It’s a dilemma that high school students deal with every day. The pressure of schoolwork and social activities can leave many teens feeling drained and overexerted. According to the American Sleep Disorders Association, the average teenager needs around 9.5 hours of sleep per night because hormones that are critical to growth are mostly released during sleep.
Studies show that teenagers generally get an average of only 7.4 hours a night. That’s way below the amount needed to be healthy both mentally and physically. With sleep deprivation gone rampant among those teens who slump around to classes, less work is getting done because they cannot focus. Stress levels are critically high as well. From essays to sports practice and love in between it’s a superpower that teens grudge along with them.
The key to lower stress levels is having a good breakfast, to boost concentration levels; condensing hectic schedules into a schedule with only a few things instead of a novel; and getting a good night’s rest instead of midnight cramming, go  to sleep. That way, students can wake with a fresh mind rather than a cloudy, vague recollection of the night before.
Stress is an unavoidable consequence of life. The success to being stress-free is learning how to cope with it and preventing it.
In high school, this can be more difficult; however, once students learn to cope with stress, life can be a happier adventure.
