A goat, a python, a king snake and a leopard gecko.  People may think that it is crazy to have these animals in their house but some have them as pets. What animal best fits a person’s personality?

            Senior Luke Dowling says “caring for these animals can give you a sense of accomplishment once you have created a stable environment for them.

            Dowling, 17, is an Athens Drive student that is the owner of four reptiles and one amphibian. The reptiles are a bald python, corn snake, king snake and a leopard gecko. Dowling thinks that pet should fit a person’s personality.

            Caring for a pet can may seem like a hard decision. A person will have to bathe them, clean their cage, feed them and give them water. That is a lot for an animal but that is what people need to do to keep them alive.

            A person should have a pet that fits their personality so that it has a longer life span. If a person is interactive than they are going to want a pet that is also very active not one that will make a person bored. If you have a pet that will make a person bored, that person is not going to want to play with it. Animals can die from lack of attention. There are all types of pets, some weirder than others. A person can find them at your local pet store, on the internet, or even at a shelter near you

            Sugar gliders are very popular. They are from Australia and are exotic pets that have a lot of energy. They are similar to squirrels but are smaller, can glide across the air and love to climb. They are about a foot long including its tail.

            Ferrets are great pets and are very energetic. Ferrets love fruit but are careful some fruit can make them sick. Also make sure that they have water, they drink a lot of water. A person might want to make sure that the ferrets do not get near cats that are not used to the ferrets. The cat might attack the ferrets because it is a rodent. Ferrets are related to the weasel and mongoose.

            Hedgehogs are unusual pets they have spikes on their backs so a person has to be careful not to make them angry. They are not poisonous animals it is just that when they are frightened they attack. Hedgehogs are very small and they do not attack you easily if you were to flip them over they are pink and soft. People get hedgehogs mixed up a lot because they both have spikes but unlike porcupines hedgehogs don’t shoot out there spikes they keep them in and they roll to the predator.

            Geckoes are reptiles. There are about a thousand different types of them. Geckos have no eyelids so instead of blinking they lick their eye it doesn’t hurt because they have a transparent film on their eyes. They have a variety of colors and pattern some use that as a camouflage some use it to scare predators away they can change color depending on the climate or their breed. They are also found in warm parts of the world.

            So if a person is thinking of getting a pet they should try one of these pets based on the above description. Remember it is never too late to get a pet.
