Jackson High prides itself on being involved with the community. The school recently donated a sufficient amount of money to two different charitable organizations. Former Jackson High student, and class president, Derek White received 250 dollars on Wednesday October 26, on behalf of his wife, Tracey Bradley-White. Derek is currently a state police officer and gives legal advice in a column of the Jackson Citizen Patriot. His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her wish is to go to Disney Land. In an effort to aid the White family, the social service group within student government raised awareness for the cause. Money raised from the “Drive One For Your School” fundraiser was also awarded to Derek and his wife. Over all the White’s received 250 dollars raised from Jackson High student government. Jackson High also gave money to Bob Craft on behalf of the Juvenile Diabetes organization. All of the candidates running for homecoming raised money to see who would raise the most and be crowned prince and princess. The two that raised the most money and crowned prince and princess were sophomores Michael Johnson and Kristen Coffie. Between all of the candidates $1200 was raised and given to the charity of the prince and princess’s choice, which was the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.) Depending on what type is present, it can be life threatening. Even if it is a low level type, it’s still life changing. The JDRF works to find cures provide treatment and Prevent type 1 diabetes.
