The time has come again for Showcase at the Frauenthal Theater on March 16 and 17. Once again, Shores has a great lineup prepared for the competition.
Senior Sydney Tharp, who plays basketball, volleyball, and softball, and senior Nick Hendricks, who wrestles and plays football, are representing athletics.
Senior Amber Young, who is still undecided about where she wants to go to college, is representing academics.
For the Performing Arts Group Act, a contemporary dance will be performed by seniors Carlin Rollenhagen, Rachel Miller, Shea Wilcox, Kendal Brown, Kiron O’Brien, and Cody Munford; juniors Katie DeBruin, Trevor Boukamp, and Megan Boerema; and sophomore Ragen Cooper.
“We are doing a dance to ‘Ramalamabangbang’, which we picked because we knew it would be a true showstopper,” said Rollenhagen, who was part of the winning group act last year. “Since we have been preparing for months, I predict we will do extremely well.”
Wilcox is also a returnee to the Showcase competition as well.
“The group act is different from last year even though it is still a dance,” Wilcox said. “This dance is more edgy, and the focus is totally on the dancing instead of vocals. It is really fun.”
Junior Abigail Wilson, who submitted artwork into the competition, is representing visual Arts.
“I am excited because I put in a lot of work to get here,” Wilson said. “I think I really have something to be proud of.
Senior Clarisse Wilson, sister to Abigail, submitted three pieces of poetry to represent the Literary Arts section of Showcase.
“Most people do not know I write poetry,” Clarisse said. “I want people to know another side of me.”
Last but not least, juniors Gabby Schaub and Sam Andrade are doing a song called “Blue Spotted Tail” for the Performing Arts Individual Act.
“It is a really pretty song,” said Schaub, who is singing and playing the banjo. “I am excited to perform it because I want people to hear the song.”
Andrade is accompanying Schaub on the cello.
“We are friends, so when she asked me to help, I was glad to,” Andrade said. “I am excited but also really nervous to perform in front of a big group of people.”
No matter what the outcome of Showcase, Shores will be sure to carry on their tradition of excellence.
