Briar Woods, watch out surrounding communities.
After completing driver’s education first semester, sophomore Falcons are hitting the roads. This nine week session, taught by the physical education teachers, teaches 10th graders the proper rules and laws of the road.
According to driver’s education teachers Kristen Develli and Ann Vierkorn, many different topics are taught during these nine weeks, including different driving techniques, right of way concepts, markings and signs, parking styles and how to park, the laws and rules of the road, and aggressive driving.
Develli and Vierkorn teach practically the same curriculum every year and feel that it covers everything students need to know before they begin driving.
“The best thing is the ‘Partners for Safe Teen Drivers’ program, which is mandatory for students and parents to attend,” said Vierkorn. “It makes a big difference because it gets the parents involved.”
Through this course, sophomore Falcons feel like they have learned a lot about driving and the road.
“Driver’s ed. has prepared me a lot,” said Sophomore Mia Venkat. “I can take my permit test in March and I am probably going to pass it the first time because of driver’s ed.”
Even though they feel ready, many sophomores are still a little nervous and scared about going on the roads. Sophomore Francis Jover said that he is mostly afraid of driving on the highways.
Nonetheless, their excitement greatly surpasses their fear of driving. Every sophomore spoken to could not speak about driving without a smile creeping onto their face.
