Kids all over share a similar dream of growing up and becoming a sensation; Greyson Chance made that dream come true by posting a video of himself singing on YouTube.
At one point in everyone’s childhood they have dreamed of rocking out on stage with crowds of people cheering their name. So many kids in the world are musically talented but it has been difficult for them to share their skills with people all over the world, until the popular site, YouTube came out. Now adolescents are constantly updating their YouTube accounts posting videos of them singing a cover of a song or sharing their taped performance at their school talent show.
Greyson Chance is an American pop singer and pianist who became a sensation after posting a video singing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” at a sixth-grade musical festival. The video was posted on Apr. 28, and for about two weeks the video generated low views, until GossipBoy.ca and reddit.com posted video embeds on May 10, 2010. Tanner Chance, wrote to Ellen DeGeneres suggesting that she watch his brother’s video and when DeGeneres finally saw the video at had around 10,000 views. Chance was then invited to perform the song on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show, on May 12, 2010 he taped an interview and performance of “Paparazzi” in Los Angeles and it was broadcasted the next day. During the interview Chance received a phone call from Lady Gaga where she told him he was an inspiration. However, this experience was not Chance’s only brush with fame, he was asked to make another appearance on the show where he preformed his own original song “Broken Hearts,” received a new Yamaha piano, was announced as DeGenere’s first signed artist to her new recording label eleveneleven and won a $10,000 award for winning Ellen’s Wonderful Web of Wonderment contest.
Since posting the video, the excitement has not stopped for Chance, he released his album Hold On ‘til the Night on Aug. 2, 2011 and has music videos for his songs “Waiting Outside the Lines,” “Unfriend You,” and “Hold On ‘til the Night.” Chance has also been nominated for awards such as, Choice Web Star, Icon of Tomorrow, Teen Pick: YouTube Artist, and Rockin’ New Artist of the Year. YouTube has definitely been an instrumental factor in jumpstarting his career, and without posting that video Chance’s talent may have gone unnoticed. Everyone should definitely pay attention to the young pop sensation.
