Key Club is preparing for its district convention March 30-April 1. Key Clubs from all over the Northwest come together in hopes of winning awards and bonding as a club. “The Key Club district convention is like a big spirit award,” said senior, Audra Ross, Key Club president. “We get work done as well. The delegates running for international offices give speeches and are nominated.” According to Jaycee Rade, sophomore, the Key Club is focusing its efforts in winning the Single Service award and Major Emphasis award. Clubs wishing to place in either award must complete an outstanding service to the community. Prior to the district convention, Key Clubbers fill positions for the next year. According to Ross, three of the five officer positions are set in stone. Next year Rade will take the key club president position, Jaydn Sanchez, sophomore, will be secretary, and Kyah Lucky, sophomore, will be treasurer. In an attempt to get more club participation, Ross dedicates one meeting a month to do a garbage cleanup to help the janitors. “Some of the members thought it would be nice to get volunteer hours in since they actually take the time to come to the meetings,” Ross said. According to Ross, Key Clubbers are always needed because they are the man-power behind volunteer events.
