Love to dance or often find yourself dancing when music is playing? Well the West Pom and Dance team is holding tryouts!
To recap what happened on the poms team last year, the poms team got two new coaches Sarah Koschinski and Sara Jarvis partway through the season. The coaches pushed the girls and got them to make it to state for the first time!
“It was so much fun seeing the girls making it to state!” said Jarvis. Though the team got 11 at state, next year they are willing to work harder to get even better.
If you need freshen up your poms skills, don’t worry. Before tryouts in April, poms is holding tryout clinics for the girls to get the chance to see what tricks are going to be required for tryouts. The clinic, though, is just to get a feel for what is expected of how tryouts is going to be like and it’s the time to ask questions about what’s expected. The clinic is being held Tuesday, March 27 and Thursday, March 29 from 4-6 pm, in the Cafeteria. Koschinski wanted to do this clinic “for the girls to get a feel of what is going to be expected during tryouts and feel comfortable with everything.”
The actual tryouts for the team is going to be held April 24-27, but the time and place is yet to be determined. The girls will be tested on their tricks such as jumps and skills as in flexibility. They will also have to learn a routine and perform it on the last day.
What are the coaches looking for?
Coach Koschinki wants “ a good group that’s ready to work hard."
Curious of how many would make the team? Jarvis said it depends on the turnout.
“We don’t have an exact set number of how many people we’re going to take, but we’re excited to see how tryouts go.”
So come on out to the tryout clinic and try it out!
