Girls discussing dresses, boys pretending they don’t really care and the important decision of who to take lingers in the air. Prom season has hit South-Doyle High School. Students look forward to prom night all year. Many questions are asked during the pre-planning stages, but they can all be summed into one: how do you have the perfect prom?
First, you need to pick something great to wear. Your dress or tuxedo should be one that flatters you and shows off your personality. Ladies can find dresses from numerous places such as Bella Boutique, JC Penney, Dillard’s, Formal Approach, Gilded Gown and David’s Bridal. Gentlemen may find their tuxedos at stores such as David’s Bridal, Formal Approach and Men’s Wearhouse.
“Just don’t wear stilettos!” said Senior Sarah Williams.
Next, pick a great place to eat. Whether you want to dine cheap and fast or romantic and fancy, pick a restaurant that you and your date or friends will all enjoy. Restaurants such as Ye Olde Steak House, Tomato Head, Calhouns, Café 4, Cheddar’s, Wasabi, Peerless and Naples provide a variety of options on their menus while places such as Sunspot are great for vegetarians.
“Try Calhoun’s on the river. Their food is awesome!” said Senior Andrew Morgan.
The entire prom experience is not just what you do at prom but what you choose to do after as well. There are many options as to how you can entertain yourself after prom. Ideas such as having a bonfire, bowling and roller skating are great activities to do with a group. If you go with a date and want to continue a romantic evening, you can go out and see a movie, or stay in and watch movies on the couch. Whatever you choose to do just make sure it is something you and whoever you are with will equally enjoy.
“Last year we just went to my house and watched movies. It was really fun!” said Senior Marissa Stiles.
The main decision, and quite possibly the most important, is who to go to prom with. Whether you go with a date, a friend or a group of friends, your prom experience will only be unforgettable because of those you choose to make those memories with. If you are looking to go with a date, pick someone who is willing to dance just as much as you are and isn’t afraid to be him or herself around you. Also, if you’re looking to just have a good time, pick someone who won’t mind dancing with other people or in a group. Sometimes the more is the merrier, so do not be afraid to just go with a large group of friends.
Prom will be on May 5 at the Knoxville Museum of Art. Tickets are $35 and were sold April 16-20 in the main hallway. This year’s theme is “Masquerade Ball.” Students can get feather and sequin masks when they arrive at the event courtesy of the prom committee. As an added treat, Marble Slab Creamery will be catering ice cream to attendees; more food will be provided.
