On May 5th, 2012 University Preparatory Academy held the annual Mother's Day Tea from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. at Cathedral of Faith.

Students and their families were invited to be a part of the traditional celebration, however some UPA students also took the chance to volunteer at the event. Junior Tomas Crespo commented, “The volunteers were doing a great job at taking the food from the kitchen to the people who needed it.” Junior Mark Ochinero added on, “Mother’s Day Tea was also a good way to earn community service hours.” The food was served by the UPA student volunteers while having the luxury of enjoying the music, photo booth and raffle. The menu included quiche, a vegetarian option followed by a desert of chocolate mousse.

Before being seated the attendees had the opportunity to buy tickets for the raffle which took place at the end of the brunch.  Throughout the event, families donated items for future fundraising and took pictures with family members at the nearby photo booth. During the event, Sophomores Pablo Lopez and Jesse Doña performed tracks by Bob Marley and the Beatles. The performances also included a folk dance by sophomore Venessa Fuentes.

Eighth grader Brenna Bennett who attended the event alongside her family commented, “I completely loved the fun entertainment.”
