The way of the Internet allows communication to connect with family and friends. Sharing photos, videos, and music are great ways to keep in touch with those close to you or far away from you. There are many of them, Social Networks.

The biggest, most popular growing social network in early 2000’s was Myspace. It began as a place to meet new people and have your friends. People were spending most of their time on Myspace which slowly started changing into a new trend called Facebook.

Facebook was originally created for older people to find their high school classmates, but the word slowly made way to teenagers.  The numbers ranked and everyone soon had Facebook.

From a parent’s perspective, Facebook has developed into a social network that is a fast and effective way of finding old classmates and keeping in touch with family and friends that live far away. However, they also find that sometimes it is an easy way for students to “bully” each other and use lots of unnecessary language that should not be allowed.

Social network can be a positive way to monitor a child’s day to day activity- from school to weekend plans- friends and messages.

Is it a good way to communicate with those close to us and far from us or a mistake that will soon turn to new issues?

Student at John I. Leonard, freshmen, Mandy Alvarado says, “I believe social networks are useful to society. It is a good way to keep in touch with family, friends, and acquaintances. I also believe social networks are misused; people using it to cyber bully some other person.”

“Misusing the network for the opposite reasons it is used for. I honestly don’t think it is necessary to have a lot of social networks, one network is fine,” says Alvarado.

The movements started from Myspace, which soon changed to Facebook and what is now making way to Tumblr and Instagram.

Tumblr is a blogging network that allows users to post multimedia. Users may choose to share their blogs or keep them private.

Instagram is an iPhone or iPod app which allows you to upload pictures and see what other users are doing by taking pictures of the activity.

“You don’t need to have four different social networks that basically have the same exact function. Just one that satisfies everything you need. Some people have all five different networks,” says Alvarado.

There is good and bad in every networking. Day to day it is always changing It is a choice whether or not you’re changing with it.
