It seems that nowadays, you can't go anywhere whithout seeing a Marilyn Monroe t-shirt, red lipstick, and Bettie Page bangs on today's youth. The iconic signs of pinups are coming back now more than ever. What started the trend? And what makes these women so popular?

Well, according to Ehow, the story goes a little something like this: "The style of pinup modeling forst emerged in the early 1900's and immediatly influenced the way society saw sexuality". Sexuality is defined as expression of sexual receptivity or interest especially when excessive. This "sexuality" has gotten men hot- and- bothered, and has gotten women to want to be like these women shown on magazines. It is said the people who saw these magazines would rip out the images and pin them up ; hence the term "pinup". Business owners saw the growing interest and realized the benefits they could get from this.


1940's and 50's were the peak for these ladies; first appearing in Playboy magazine. I believe my love for these women is so strong because their were women of all sizes and shapes, including my favorite Marilyn Monroe; who by today's standards would've been considered overweight. They also had a more natural look. These beauties were often pictured in: corsets, garters, leg stockings, and high heels. In the beginning, they rocked dark hair, porcelian skin, bright red lips, and bright eyes.


Bettie seems to be the favorite of most; even though she often showed all her assets, good for men; bad for children. She still is one of the biggest influences, ever. She even stated in an interview " I have no idea why i'm the only model who has so much fame so long after quitting work." - 2006 . She rocked dark hair and heavy bangs that covered her forehead. She would definitely be pinned-up on my wall if it weren't for all her nudity; good for dad, bad for mom.
