He Can do it All
At age 55, Larry Bird has long been retired from playing basketball, but that doesn’t stop him from winning even more NBA awards.
Larry Bird was named NBA Executive of the year earlier this week. He is the only person to win NBA MVP, NBA Coach of the Year, and NBA Executive of the Year. Along with those awards, he has also been inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame and over the years has won many other awards.
This year, Bird led the Pacers to the playoffs as their general manager. In 1998, his first year as a coach, the Pacers finished the regular season with a 58-24 record. The Pacers made the Eastern Conference Finals but lost to the Bulls.
Bird is considered by many the best basketball player to ever live. He led the Celtics to 3 NBA championships and won 1 NBA Finals MVP. He finished his hall of fame career with 897 games played and 21,791 points scored. At Bird’s retirement party Magic Johnson made this comment: “Larry, you only told me one lie. You said there will be another Larry Bird. Larry, there will never, ever be another Larry Bird!”
Celtics fans probably all wish him best of luck in this years playoffs, unless, of course, the Pacers play the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.
