Clara Nelson
Clara will be attending Whitworth University in Spokane to pursue a degree in biology. Throughout high school she has been in the band program and plans on continuing her music education with the Whitworth Wind Symphony.
Why did you choose Whitworth?
My good friend goes there and she was pushing me to apply there. I filled out the application before I researched much about it, and when they accepted me I started to look into it more and the more I researched, the more I wanted to go there. Whitworth has small class sizes, a beautiful campus, and the degree program that I need. Also, they gave me money.
What was your greatest accomplishment in high school?
Earning my AA. Definitely. I’m really proud of that. I put a lot of work into it and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.
What advice would you give an underclassmen about high school?
Don’t feel like you have to do everything your friends do. Do what’s best for you. If your friends don’t respect your decisions then they’re not really your friends.
What was the most memorable part of your senior year?
My sister being born! And getting sued. That was pretty memorable.
Tasha Arrington
Tasha plans on attending Peninsula College straight out of high school to earn her Associate’s of Arts. After that she plans on going to the University of Alaska to major in Japanese translation.
What do you want to do with your degree?
I want to be able to be a translator for all things written, like Anime and Manga because I really enjoy that. I plan on going back to Japan and living there while I’m in school so that I can learn the language and culture better. I chose the University of Alaska because it’s cold and they offer the degree I want.
What was your greatest accomplishment in high school?
My greatest accomplishment? Going to Japan my freshman year. It was the last year they ever did it.
What advice would you give an underclassmen about high school?
Get your stuff done quickly and don’t procrastinate. Enjoy the small things in life. High school is the time where you learn about yourself and people tend to get really angry with fights and stuff like that, so enjoying the little things makes life so much easier. Just be happy.
What was the most memorable part of your senior year?
Dealing with Timberline. It’s more of family time than school time. If we’re having a bad day we just laugh about it.
Autumn Ruddick
Autumn will be playing volleyball for Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington. While at Olympic, Autumn will work on a double major in criminal psychology and medicine to earn her bachelor’s of arts.
Why Olympic?
I ended up wanting to go to Olympic because I wanted to finish my AA at a community college because of finances. Also, because my mom just had her [brain] surgery I wanted to be closer to home for a year before I transfer. Less distance makes things simpler if I need to come home.
What was your greatest accomplishment in high school?
Making the decision to do Running Start. Besides getting a head start on college the experience let me get to know myself on an academic and personal level better than I did before. It’s really stressful and you have to make a lot more decisions than you would in high school, but I definitely learned from the experience.
What advice would you give an underclassmen about high school?
Do what’s right for you. Your real friends won’t judge you if you make different decisions than they do. Keep yourself on track and make decisions that will push you forward on the track you want to move on in your life.
What was the most memorable part of your senior year?
Signing my letter of intent to play volleyball next year. It’s scary, but I’m excited.
Emily Fishman
Emily will be moving to Israel to apply for citizenship. While in Israel, Emily will be joining the Israeli Armed Forces. She plans on attending university while abroad and will establish herself as an Israeli citizen.
Why Israel?
I have wanted to move there for several years so I can learn more about the culture and the politics of the area. I’m looking forward to learning Hebrew, meeting and connecting with new types of people, and fully integrating into the society. I’m going to appreciate the warm weather and contrast between the beautiful beaches and snowy mountains.
What was your greatest accomplishment in high school?
Surviving.
What advice would you give an underclass men about high school?
Don’t wait until your junior or senior year to push yourself and become involved in different activities. You will really appreciate looking back on your four years of high school and being able to write about everything you were involved in while filling out your college applications.
What was the most memorable part of your senior year?
I went to park next to the Timberline classroom and as I was backing out I tore up the side of my Sienna with a pole. We had to fill out an incident report and everything. I guess that’s why we aren’t supposed to park down there.
