Are you ready for some kickball?
Shores definitely was during Homecoming week, and instead of some Monday Night Football, students had some Wednesday Night Kickball.
In the past, Shores’ female students played Powder Puff Football, and all students could participate in Sailor Olympics.
This year the senior Student Senators de-cided to make kickball the Wednesday evening Home-coming activity.
Games were held at the softball fields, and each team was divided by grade, and they were all co-ed.
“Guys can’t really do Powder Puff Football, so I really liked the idea of being able to participate in a Homecoming activity,” sophomore Jake Dake said. “I thought that kickball was a good way to get students to come together.”
By making kickball for both boys and girls, there was an increased number of players.
“We had the highest turnout for juniors and seniors,” said Deanna Smalligan, senior Student Senate advisor. “It was really great to see the school getting involved in this new activity.”
More than 120 students participated; however, some students said they wished that Powder Puff was still the Wednesday night activity.
“I can play kickball whenever I want, so Powder Puff would have been a lot more fun,” junior Megan Mangione said. “I would have had a lot more fun playing football, which I never really get to play.”
The winner of this year’s tournament was the senior team, which first beat the sophomore team then the junior team.
“Overall, I think kickball was a success, and I hope that we can keep it co-ed for future years,” senior Taryn Klinkner said.
