In the World Golf Championship, where only two men have won more than once, Tiger Woods has won 15. In winning the Accenture Match Play Championship Tiger put himself at 3-0 so far this year and set the score for WGC events at: Tiger-15, Rest of the world-12.
When asked about his performance lately Woods said, “I think this is the best stretch I’ve ever played.” And it very well may be as Woods has won six of his last seven PGA Tour events.
Many have expressed thoughts to the possibility of a perfect season for Tiger and to that he added, “That’s why you play. If you don’t believe you can win an event, don’t show up.”
And Woods has shown up. Winning this latest tournament moved him into fourth place on the all time wins list with 63 wins in just 218 starts. It is reasonable to assume that at the age of 32, and in his prime, Tiger could reach number one on that list in the next two or three seasons. The current leader, Sam Snead, has 82 career wins.
Tiger will most likely go down as the greatest golfer of all time and many believe that he may sit atop the ranks of greatest athlete of all time in any sport.
As Jack Nicklaus said of Tiger, "[A perfect season is] a pretty lofty goal, but for a guy like Tiger, I wouldn't put it past him."
