Student Council is having a date auction fundraiser to raise money for donations and expenses.
The senior class will be “auctioned off” and the underclassmen will be the “bidders.”
“The hope is to bring the school together by building a relationship through all grade levels,” said Mr. Madden. “Being a larger school it’s sometimes difficult for underclassmen to feel comfortable with the upperclassmen.”
Those chosen for the auction are usually well-respected seniors who represent their class well. This shows that the seniors are leaders willing to hang out with freshmen and sophomores for a good cause.
“School spirit, and an accepting culture in our building is what we need,” said Mr. Madden, “and I think the date auction helps build that culture.”
“It would be a good way for people to get to know each other, especially between the grade levels,” said freshman Stephanie Suhr.
“I think that a date auction is a wonderful idea,” said sophomore Cody Hamilton. “The only downside is if nobody bids on someone. That would be really embarrassing.”
The date auction is still undecided, but is expected to be on a Friday during 10th period. Students will have to pay a small $1 or $2 fee to attend.
There will be 5-7 senior boys and 5-7 senior girls “auctioned off.” Science teacher, Mr. Collins is expected to be the auctioneer. The highest bidders of the auction will go on a field trip to Poelking bowling lanes with the “dates,” and then to have pizza at Marion’s.
Student Council encourages all students to participate.
