Cheryl Smith resigned her position on the Centerville City School Board after the police busted an under-aged drinking party at her house.
Smith states “I did not want the events of Feb. 14 to be a distraction to the board and to school administrators.”
On Feb. 14, the Centerville Police Department received a noise complaint from Smith’s neighbors. When arriving to the house, the police saw many cars parked outside the house. They had the drug dogs check the cars, and some illegal substances were found inside a car.
When the police requested entry to the house, no one came to the door. After several hours of calling the home owner on cell phone, they blocked off the house so that no one could leave while they obtained a search warrant.
Smith was not at her home at the time of the party that night, but when she arrived there, the search warrant was unnecessary because she let them right into the house. Inside the house there were many empty beer cans and wine bottles. Although police interviewed some of the teens who were over 18, they have not yet determined where the juveniles got the alcohol.
A few days later she sent a one sentence email to Centerville School Board President, David Roer, announcing her resignation
