In good taste: The death by chocolate dessert (top of page) layers chocolate mousse and whipped cream. The barbecue chicken pizza (above) is reminiscent of a backyard barbecue. Photo by Amber Lucy -

Crust Pizza and Wine Bar in the Bloomfield Plaza Shopping Center is a quiet, back of the woods pizza restaurant in Bloomfield Hills.
Even though it is an undersized establishment, Crust Pizza has a big name throughout Bloomfield Hills.
As soon as customers enter, they feel the warmth of the open fire and smell the mouth-watering aroma of mozzarella and tomatoes. They can watch the chefs prepare pizza by the grill, which shows their honesty to their customers.
Crust Pizza has far more than just pepperoni to offer; the barbecue chicken pizza consists of chicken, corn, mozzarella and fresh cilantro on a thin layer of crust. It is truly a backyard barbeque come to life.
Or try the shrimp pesto pizza, which consists of sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella and goat cheese. The pizza options are creative.
Crust Pizza also has a phenomenal variety of salads. The arugula salad combines shaved parmigiano, roasted black olives and lemon pepper vinaigrette. Or, if you’re more of the simple type, they also have a crispy Caesar salad.
Crust Pizza is mid-priced, with the average meal somewhere between $15 to $17.
On the weekends, there is usually about a 30-minute wait. But the wait is worth it once you bite into the delicious pizzas. Your taste buds will thank you.
As for dessert, you might never have the same sweet ending twice at this restaurant because dessert is whatever the chef has decided to prepare for the day.
You may be lucky enough to have a serving of death by chocolate, which consists of chocolate mousse and whipped cream layered in a tall glass. It is creative and original.
Our service at Crust Pizza was exceptional. After ordering the food, our wait was about 10 minutes -- the shortest time I’ve ever received food at a restaurant.
So how could this place get any better? The environment is romantic yet simple, which means you could go here with a special someone or your family or friends.
While sitting at the restaurant, I couldn’t help but think that this was the first time in a long time that I had dined in a restaurant and did not have any complaints. The waiters weren’t bumping me with their shoulders when they walked past, the food was delectable, and the fellow customers were civil.
Crust Pizza has changed the game for upcoming pizza bistros. It’s the perfect antidote for those who are sick of Little Caesars’ Hot and Ready’s. It’s a better level of pizza.
