The summer of 2008 seemed to be full of superhero movies. The season started with Ironman went on to The Hulk to Hancock and finished with The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight seemed to be the biggest blockbuster out of them all. The film released in theaters on July 18th, and, now, Warner Bros. is planning to re-release the movie in January.
Warner Bros. is hoping that Heath Ledger’s role as The Joker is nominated for an Academy Award for Supporting Actor. As for the film itself, The Dark Knight has made $521 million domestically and is the second highest grossing film ever. It is right behind the Titanic, which grossed a total of $600 million.
Now moviegoers are wondering whether the film will take the number one spot as the highest grossing movie. Others have also wondered if Heath Ledger’s role can actually win. Then, we have fans who think that the movie shouldn’t re-release.
I asked two students whether it was a good idea or not. Both were two big comic book fans and have seen the film.
Christopher Perez, junior, said, "That’s awesome. I would definitely see it again, and it’s a good look for Heath Ledger if he wins an award."
Then, there was a student who thought it was a bad idea. Jay Solanki, junior, said, "That’s just stupid. The people who made it just want money."
Now fans just have to wait to see the movie again in January and for the Academy Awards to see if Ledger wins.
