“I enjoy being alongside faculty, opposed to under them,” says Lucey. A lot of success has come Lucey’s way since his original plan of being on Broadway. He was suddenly led to criminal justice, and that brought him here, with the honor of spending many of his days with us at Triton.

“He was extremely passionate about theater and music,” remembers Mrs. Sharon Riordan. Spending a good amount of time with Lucey, Mrs. Riordan said she thought he’d always end up perusing a career in arts, but personally finds what he ended up getting himself into far more interesting.

There are many stereotypes that come along with being a police officer, but with Lucey’s creative and artistic personality, which had always shown in theater performances, helps him to overcome the views of “your average police officer,” he said. It allows perspectives to vary on the “serious” judgments of a cop.

“With such experience, his different perspectives on things will help him out tremendously,” predicts Mrs. Riordan.

Although Lucey’s presence has been a pleasure thus far, many questions remain unanswered, with one in particular. Why did former School Resource Officer Steven May leave?

Last month, the Newbury Police Department notified Triton that May wasn’t coming back and had been re-stationed.

“This wasn’t put in place by the school and wasn’t our decision,” says Assistant Principal Mr. Scott Brennan. Despite May’s departure and Lucey’s arrival, Brennan remains thankful for the help and all that the officers do, and have done. Brennan describes Lucey as “another resource”.

“He does a great job by always making himself available,” says Brennan. Since he has been here at Triton he has helped numerous mornings at school, waiting for the buses; it is greatly appreciated,” says Brennan.

It seems that it is fitting that it was here where Lucey’s success began and here and now where it successfully continues to pay off.
