America is ready for a change: starting with the historic race for the White House in 2008. Democratic candidate Barack Obama has already made it into the history books with his campaign. The fact that there is an African American running for president supports the idea that America is ready for progress.

I believe that America is ready for a change because she is tired and needs to recuperate her strength, especially if she wants to remain a world power. The past 50 years have been filled with patterns meaningless wars such as Vietnam and the War in Iraq “War on Terrorism” and world policing. America is overdue for a fresh new approach and the election of a black man, such as Obama, into office is a great way to show how far we’ve come as a country.

The historic events of the 2008 election do not mean that America is liberated of the deep racial scars left behind by our forefathers hundreds of years ago. Racism is still rooted in some places in America.

While, there are websites where people have posted blogs hinting at assassinating Obama if he became president, these expressions of hate do not mean that America as a whole isn’t ready for progress. The comments represent a small portion of society. The current data of the Electoral College of 2008 posted on CNN.com, suggest the majority of America is supporting Obama.

The majority of American voters have been able to see beyond Obama’s skin and see the change he could bring to America. They see him as an individual free of the bondage of prejudice.

From the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to present day controversies of gay and lesbian marriages, America is on the move. Ready or not change is coming.
