The feeling one gets when volunteering is an indescribable sensation. charity work lifts your spirits and gets you out of yourself and into a place of well-being.
As the saying goes, “Those who volunteer live longer.”? For example: my Great Aunt Margaret. She’s in her nineties and is still going strong. She tells us she “helps old people.”
Countless places offer opportunities to volunteer with the benefit of love from those you help. The smiles, hugs and warm looks of gratitude is what makes volunteering such a rewarding experience.
Clayton Valley consists of many clubs, one very important club being Interact. This club involves working together to help those in need. Varying from canned food drives to calling bingo at the senior living development, Interact does many community service projects around our area.
One of the places Interact is serving at the time is the Monument Crisis center. The Monument Crisis Center (MCC) is a non-profit community based organization committed to helping low-income families and individuals of the Monument Corridor and Central Contra Costa County. They provide food, books, diapers, support, english classes for adults, and tutoring for students.
Interact is reaching out by holding a book drive to promote literacy. Boxes have been placed in various English classes where students and staff can bring new and used books to donate to MCC.
The majority of volunteers at MCC are teenagers. A significant contribution to the success of the Monument Crisis Center is the youth. Whether it’s through Interact or and individuals self-perseverance, volunteering is a positive way to work with your community.
As many of us are very lucky to have food and a roof over our heads, we often take for granted how much we truly have. Even those who have almost nothing, find a place in their hearts to give back because of the kindness they’ve received.
If we take the time now to give back to our community and carry it with us into our adult lives, we will be able to make a difference both locally and globally.
